A SNAP EBT POS that splits the basket for you.

Flag eligible items once. At checkout GetGroceryPOS sends the SNAP part to the EBT tender and the rest to card or cash. It works with your certified EBT processor, and your store keeps its own FNS authorization.

Ready for the 1st of the month in four steps.

  1. Step 1Get your FNS authorization

Apply to USDA FNS as a SNAP retailer. You need to meet the staple-food stocking rules. We can’t apply for you.

  2. Step 2Pick a certified EBT processor

Sign with a third-party processor that handles EBT, or use your state’s equipment program. They connect the card side.

  3. Step 3Flag your SNAP items

Mark eligible products in GetGroceryPOS. Mark hot foods, non-food and your state’s restricted drinks or candy as not eligible.

  4. Step 4Test a split basket

Ring a mixed basket: SNAP items to the EBT tender, everything else to card or cash. Check it before the 1st of the month.

New stocking standard from November 4, 2026
Most SNAP retailers must carry at least seven varieties in each of four staple categories (protein; grains; vegetables or fruits; dairy), with at least one perishable variety in three categories, and three stocking units per variety. Specialty stores such as butchers are treated differently. Group your products by category in GetGroceryPOS to count varieties before an inspection.

SNAP and EBT, no fine print.

9 questions on the shelf

  1. Can my POS accept EBT?

GetGroceryPOS handles the register side: SNAP-eligible flags on products and a split tender at checkout. The EBT card itself is processed by your certified EBT processor, and your store needs its own SNAP authorization from USDA FNS. GetGroceryPOS is not an EBT processor and does not hold FNS authorization for you.

  2. Is SNAP/EBT available in the UAE or Pakistan?

No. SNAP is a US federal program, so this feature applies only to US stores. UAE and Pakistan stores use their local payment methods; see countries.

  3. What is not SNAP eligible?

Federally: alcohol, tobacco, hot foods ready to eat at the point of sale, vitamins and medicines, and non-food items such as soap or paper goods. Since 2026, several states also exclude soda, candy or both under USDA waivers.

  4. How does a split tender work?

At checkout the register totals the SNAP-eligible items separately. The customer pays that part with the EBT card and the rest with card or cash. One receipt shows both tenders.

  5. How do I handle my state’s soda and candy restriction?

Mark the affected products as not SNAP-eligible in your catalogue, ideally with a category so you can change them in bulk. Definitions differ by state (some count certain protein bars as candy), so follow your state agency’s list. The 2026 state guide has dates.

  6. What about EBT cash benefits?

EBT cash benefits can buy anything the store sells, like a debit card. Your EBT processor handles the card type; the register records it as a separate tender.

  7. Does GetGroceryPOS work with WIC?

WIC is run by each state with its own approved product lists and certified systems. Ask on your demo; we won’t promise WIC until your state’s requirements are confirmed for your store.

  8. What changed in SNAP stocking rules in 2026?

From November 4, 2026 most SNAP retailers must stock at least seven varieties in each of four staple categories, with perishables in three. Category reports in GetGroceryPOS help you count varieties. Details in our stocking-rule guide.

  9. Can I accept SNAP online through the auto-generated store?

Online SNAP is a separate FNS program with its own approval and processors. The auto-generated online store does not take EBT payments.
