Language works on three levels: the screen each staff member reads, the product names in your catalogue, and the receipt your customer takes home. Each is set separately, which is what lets a family-run market work in two or three languages at once.
Screen language: one per user
Every user picks their own interface language.
- Click your name or the user menu and open My profile.
- Find Language and choose from the list.
- Save. Your screen changes; nobody else’s does.
The owner can keep the back office in English for the accountant while the cashier at Lane 2 works in Spanish and the stock clerk in Arabic.
Languages built in
English, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, French, German, Dutch and Albanian come ready.
Custom translations: Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Urdu and others
Other languages are added as custom translations. For Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and Urdu, our team sets them up for you during onboarding. Tell us on the demo which languages your staff need.
Custom translations are editable. If a word on a button reads oddly to your staff, tell us the screen and the word, and we fix it. Screens in Arabic and Urdu read right to left.
Product names in any script
Product names are free text, so you can type them in any language and script:
- Single language: “茉莉香米”, “Gạo thơm lài”, “자스민 쌀”, “أرز ياسمين”, “جیسمین چاول”
- Two languages in one name: “Arroz jazmín / Jasmine rice”
Two-language names help when cashiers and customers read different languages, and when a family member who reads only English does the ordering. Search works on whatever you typed, so cashiers can search in either language.
Keep the more important language first: receipt printers cut long names.
The receipt
- Set the receipt (invoice) layout for each location, including the language of fixed labels like Total and Change.
- Product names print as typed.
- Print a test receipt.
Chinese, Korean, Arabic and Urdu need a receipt printer that supports those characters, and Arabic and Urdu need right-to-left support. See receipt printer and cash drawer. We check your printer on the demo.
A practical setup for a two-language store
- Owner and back office: English.
- Cashiers: their own language each.
- Product names: “Native name / English name”.
- Receipt: the language most of your customers read, with a bilingual thank-you line in the footer.
Common problems
The screen changed back to English. The user changed the language on a shared login. Give each person their own login.
Some buttons are still in English. A screen has not been covered by the custom translation yet. Tell us which one and we add it.
Product names show question marks. The spreadsheet was saved with the wrong encoding before import. Save in Excel format and import again.
Receipt shows boxes. The printer cannot draw that script. Try its graphics mode or a printer with that language.
